Special Initiatives

CHCA and its partner members have joined forces to successfully garner grant  funding through federal programs since 2006, and have received multiple awards to support the development of technology to serve network members and their patients, ultimately improving operating efficiency and health outcomes. Each step of the way has brought evidence-based medicine and national best practices into the hands of providers and their teams to help better serve their communities.

In addition to funding to support the implementation of Electronic Health Records and Electronic Oral Health Records, CHCA is also actively planning for the next phase of health information technology:  Health Information Exchange.

Across the country and in our local service areas, healthcare community stakeholders are working together based upon a shared commitment to quality, safety, access, and efficiency of health care services, and are utilizing Health Information Technology (HIT) to accomplish these goals for the benefit of the patients served. For example, health centers may have a need to share records with hospitals and obstetricians for their prenatal patients. Or,they may have patients who are referred to local specialists for expert consultation or other care. Requests for information are also coming from state agencies, commercial insurers, grantors, and others!

CHCA wants to ensure the proper technology readiness to support our members in becoming solid community partners within such progressive initiatives. Via HRSA's 2007 planning grant program, we are working with a nationally recognized HIT consultant to actively determine next steps.  This important special initiative is a critical piece of our long-term strategic planning efforts towards continued development and sustainability of our robust systems.
