CHCA Board Member and Chair, Richard B. Akin
For the past 26 years, Mr. Akin has served as the president and CEO of Collier Health Services, Inc. Under his leadership, the Children's Health Network was established in Collier County, the first Ronald McDonald Care Mobile came to Florida, and a pedodontic dental residency program has been established in partnership with the University of Florida College of Dentistry. Mr. Akin attended Florida State University and the University of Miami, and holds degrees in biology and chemistry, and has completed graduate study in health care administration. Mr. Akin has received numerous awards for his service and dedication to health care excellence, including the 2006 Harvey Kapnick award, given by the Collier County Community Foundation for the best managed not for profit in Collier county. He has received the Distinguished Service Medal from the Nova Southeastern University College of Medicine, and has served twice as the chairman of the Florida Association of Community Health Centers. In addition to his service on the board of CHCA, he is currenlty the chairman of the Everglades Area Health Education Center and Vice-President of Ronald McDonald House Charities.
